The Chow Chow dog breed has an interesting Chinese history. He was used to pull carts, guard, and was even used as a source of food. Although Chow sounds like a Chinese word, it is not. His name is an English interpretation of Chinese words and does not resemble the modern Chinese name of the dog breed.
The Chow Chow dog breed is a relatively low maintenance dog. He requires little exercise and does not demand a lot of attention or play time. The long-haired Chow Chow dog breed does, however, require regular brushing. He is suspicous of strangers and is reserved even with family members. He is rather independent and so can be difficult to train. To read more about the Chow Chow dog breed visit our Squidoo page at http://www.squidoo.com/information-about-the-chow-chow-dog-breed.
