Wordless Wednesday – Deuce the Cat is Done

Remember the sketches I did a few weeks ago? Well, I’ve finished the final art work of one of them. Check out Deuce!

Photo Deuce the Cat

This is a photo of Deuce the cat.

Deuce the Cat Two

The final sketch of Deuce.

Deuce the Cat Traced Sketch

First, I trace my sketch onto pastel art paper and do the background.

Duece Cat Eyes in Pastel

Next, I do my most favorite part – the eyes! I have also included in the photo the colors of pastel pencils that I used to color the eyes.

Deuce the Cat Nose

Next is the nose. I have included the colors of pencils I used for the nose in this picture.

Duece the Cat Art 1

Then I start working on the cat’s body. I didn’t picture the pencils here but I used black, dark blue, light blue, grey, and white pencils.

Duece the Cat Art 2

The last part I need to work on is Deuce’s head. As you can see, I first did the white parts of his face. They I lay the background color, which is black.

Deuce the Cat Art 3

Finished! Deuce the cat has been completed in pastel pencils by Dawn Ross on June 18th, 2013.

This is so interesting. What talent! Perfect eyes and proportions and the fur looks so soft! I used to draw all the time but that was years and years ago…now I want to get back into it. I’d really love to find a class. Thanks for sharing the colors you used.

Amy, thank you for the compliment. A class can be a good great motivator, but if you can’t find the right class just find the inspiration. Find a beautiful but simple photo that you really love, get some colored pencils, paint, or pastes, and go! Even if it doesn’t come out, the process is fun and you learn as you go.

I am impressed. Drawing is not my thing. Have you always had this talent or did you have to teach yourself? Is Deuce your cat?

    • ILoveDogs Says:

Thanks, Lindsay! 🙂 I’ve always had the talent. My grandmother noticed it and encouraged it by buying me art books and supplies. I didn’t start taking formal art classes until high school and I took a few classes in college several years ago.

Deuce is my aunt’s cat. My cousin is having me draw him and her dog Mos for her birthday. Hopefully, I will have Mos finished and posted here before the end of the month.
