Every year in the Kansas City metro area several public pools open up to the dogs. They do it at the end of the season just before they drain them. Here is Maya having a good time at Young’s Pool in Overland Park, Kansas for the annual Pooch Plunge.
I have to admit that these are last year’s photos. I really wanted to take Maya to this event on the 17th, but my car was in the shop… and the husband wouldn’t let me take Maya in his car. 😦
No worries, though. Maya didn’t completely miss out. There is another Pooch Plunge event here in Lawrence at the beginning of September. We’re going, even if we have to walk there!
Even though the above photos aren’t current, I’m showing them to you now so perhaps you can check your area to see if any of your public pools open up for the dogs. Now’s the time! And if you don’t have any, maybe you can inspire your local parks and rec to do it next year.
On another happy note, Pierson’s roses and poo poem won the Bad Poetry Day Contest held by Ku at HaikuByKu.com and Oz at OzTheTerrier.com! Here is his poem again:

Love the pictures, that’s a wonderful idea. Is it free? I don’t have a dog but have several friends that do.

No, there is a small fee. $7 per dog, I think. Maybe less. Worth every penny! 🙂

Especially to see their happy faces.

That’s so cool, I will definitely have to scope out if any pools near me do this. Thanks for the heads up.

I love that your town lets dogs in at the end of the season! I’ve never heard of anything like that but I’m going to do some snooping now. Maya looks thrilled!

Whee hate water – swimming is too much effort for lazy little piggies like us – but it looks like all the doggies there had a great time in the pool! What a great idea to open the pool to dogs!

What great fun. Wouldn’t catch Litchi anywhere near there, though – such a little nerd she is, when it comes to water 🙂

That sounds so cool! I’m sorry you couldn’t go this year. You definitely need to go to the next pool plunge. Be sure to post more pictures if you do. Much love, The Scottie Mom.

What a great idea. Over (Australia) here the pools are never drained so we miss out on a ‘pool’ day. Have to make use of our rivers & beaches instead 😉

I love this idea. I wish there were a place around my home where I could take my dogs swimming like this. One day I would love to have a business that caters to dogs and their owners, giving them chances like this. I felt happy just looking at all those dogs playing. Very lucky dogs.

Oh, that is such a wonderful idea!!! Well, pools are open year round here, so they don’t do that kind of FABulous thing here ~ bummer.
I wish they did, it looks like tons of funs!!
Oh, CONGRATS! on winnin’ the Bad Poetry Contest!!! Yours was FABulously good/bad.
Kisses,
Ruby ♥

Aww that really sucks you couldn’t go this year! Hopefully next year! This does look like a lot of fun. If we had this going on around here (and kirby liked water XD) i WOULD GO TO!
